Understanding File Integrity and Recovery
Integrity checks, file availability, and recoverability describe different properties of stored files.
What is file integrity?
Integrity information helps determine whether file contents match an expected value. A checksum such as SHA-256 can help detect changes when compared against a trusted reference.
What a checksum does not establish
A checksum does not create another copy of a file. It cannot, by itself, tell you whether a deleted or unavailable file can be restored.
Primary availability and secondary replication
Primary availability indicates whether a file can be accessed through the service's normal storage path. Secondary replication tracks a separate copy process. A primary file may be available while replication remains pending.
Understanding recovery windows
Some services allow eligible deleted files to be restored from Trash for a limited period. Recovery eligibility and timing vary; always consult the current service guidance.
Practical file protection habits
Confirm uploads complete, review available status information, and keep an independent copy of important files. Periodically check that important files can be retrieved.
